A traditional jigger is a double sided device. It has a large measure
on one end, and a smaller one on the other. The larger measure is
usually 1-1/2 ounces, and is called a jigger. The smaller side is
usually 1 full ounce, and is referred to as a pony.
Today, a variety of different styles of jiggers are available. They are
most often made of metals but glass jiggers are common as well as
popular.
Features of a Good Jigger
- A good jigger will have a well formed lip that will pour a clean
stream into the cocktail shaker or glass.
- Some cocktail jiggers include a handle of some sort attached to
them. One benefit of the handle, is that if you do happen to slop
some cordials on the side of the jigger, it keeps your fingers from
getting sticky.
