History of Corkscrew
The English were the first to seal wine bottles, using cork imported
from Spain or Portugal.
Cork comes from the wood of
the Quercus Suber or cork tree, a species of Oak native to Spain. Later,
corkscrews were invented as an easy way of removing the cork from a
bottle. The first
wine corkscrews were derived from a
gun worme, a tool with a single or double spiral end fitting used to
clean musket barrels or to extract an unspent charge from the barrel.
Features of Cockscrew
- The handle of the corkscrew is often a horizontal bar of wood
attached to the screw.
- The handle allows for a fine, commanding grip making removal of
the stopper relatively easy.
- Many corkscrew handles incorporate levers that further increase
the amount of force that can be applied outwards upon the cork.
The
corkscrew opener is a stylish gift for all
occasions including New Millennium celebrations.
