Mixing Bowls

Mixing bowls are a necessity in any kitchen. Mixing bowls are used for mixing ingredients prior to baking or cooking, such as scrambling eggs for breakfast or making a cake. Mixing bowls can be made of glass, plastic, stainless steel, copper, ceramic, pottery and wood. Mixing bowls come in many styles, shapes and quality. Many bowls have a thicker or curled edge to stop the ingredients dripping down from the edge. Generally, the bottom of the mixing bowl is made flat and heavy to keep the bowl from tipping or rocking while mixing ingredients.

The small mixing bowls are commonly used for mixing small quantities or beating eggs. Larger bowls are most often used to prepare medium amounts of sauces or for mixing dried ingredients. The largest bowls are traditionally used to mix batters, beat large volumes of eggs, prepare whipping cream, or mix salads and dressings.

A variety of materials are used to make mixing bowls and the selection of material depends on the usage or personal preference :
  • Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls - These are available with a polished exterior and a satin interior. These are used for most mixing needs. They offer easy and thorough mixing.
  • Ceramic Mixing Bowls - These have matte exterior and glossy interior. These are generally used for bread dough. Ceramic Mixing Bowls are available in attractive colours and designs.
  • Glass Mixing Bowls - These bowls are better than plastic for mixing and storing food as they do not absorb the flavors and odors of the food stored in them.
