Advantages of Stainless Steel Cooking Pot
Stainless steel cooking pots have the following advantages :
- Extremely durable
- Non porous
- Extremely hard with smooth surface
- Easy to clean
- Does not react to foods
Stainless steel is an alloy mainly of steel, chromium and nickel.
The numbers 18/0, 18/8 and 8/10 refer to the percentage of content of
chromium and nickel. To be classified as stainless steel, the metal must
contain at least 11% chromium (no nickel required). Stainless steel used
in stainless steel cooking pots is normally 18% chromium and 8% to 10%
nickel.
Stainless steel cooking pots may be deep and large with or without
close-fitting lids. Usually these pots are used for cooking large
quantities of food, but they can also be used to cook stews, pasta, or
vegetables. To test whether or not a stainless steel pot is 18/0 or
18/8, just place a magnet against it and see if the pot is magnetic. If
it is then the stainless steel is 18/0; if not, it is 18/8 (or 18/10).
The addition of nickel neutralizes the natural ferrous properties of the
iron in the stainless steel.
Stainless steel cooking pots are available in either a smooth polished
finish or a hand hammered finish. High corrosion resistance makes
stainless steel cooking pots ideal for cooking in homes and hotels.
