Strainers
Strainer is a
kitchen device used to strain liquids or to sift dry ingredients. The
device has a perforated or mesh bottom and is available in a variety of
shapes and sizes. It is also called a sieve.
 
Strainers are made of a variety of materials :
- Stainless Steel - A wonderful addition to any
kitchen. It catches even the tiny pieces of solid contaminants.
- Tinned Steel - It does not corrode easily and
has a long life.
- Aluminum - It results in easy clean up.
- Plastic - These are lightweight and compact and
are ideal for use with non stick pans.
Types of Strainer
- Basket Strainer - It is a closed vessel used to
remove and retain foreign materials from flowing liquids.
- Tea Strainer - It is used to catch loose
liquids while pouring out liquids.
- Sink Strainer - A strainer that fits into the
sink drain to strain liquids.
- Soup Strainer - It is used to strain off fat
from soups.
- Rice Strainer - It is used to strain off extra
water from cooked rice.
- Colander - A perforated bowl used to strain
foods.
