Water filters are available in variety of sizes and
different types of water filters contain different filters geared to
strain out impurities in water.
History of Water Filters
The history of water filters in indelibly tied to the history of water,
itself. With the industrial growth water has become more contaminated
and then water filters emerged over the centuries in response to the
growing recognition of the need of pure water.
Earlier water was treated by boiling or placing hot metal instruments
in water before drinking. Water was also filtered through crude sand or
charcoal filters. This filtration was first done by Baker and Taras in
1981. Later several other water treatments were done and then with the
move of technology water filtration became more and more easy, efficient
and comfortable. Then came the present day water filters that are used
today in almost all the kitchen and in all the food related places like
restaurants, hotels, etc.
Types of Water Filters
- Reverse Osmosis Water Filters : Reverse osmosis
is a method of producing pure water by forcing saline impure water
through a semipermeable membrane across which salts or impurities
cannot pass. It is the easiest and the most convenient way of
cleaning and purifying water. This cleans water up to 99% free of
unwanted substances commonly found in tap and well water. It is very
affordable and easy to install and use.
- Faucet Water Filters : Faucet is a valve
mechanism that is used to control the flow of water to a sink or
other appliance. They allow you to filter water straight from the
tap and many models can divert the water from the filter. These are
the smaller versions of the carbon filters. They are the best choice
if you want to target specific contamination. They are easy to
install and very convenient to use.
- Pitcher Water Filters : These are great for the
occasional need. In these filters water flows through the internal
filter of the jug into the main canister. It takes a long time for
filtering through these filters.
- Under Sink Water Filters : These are similar to
the faucet filters but they serve only one sink. They are installed
under the sink and they are usually larger than the faucet.
- Iron Water Filters : This effectively removes
iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide from municipal or well water.
In these filters no backwashing is required and is effective over a
wide pH range. These have relatively longer life and allows high
flow rates. They also prevent staining of plumbing system.
